Chinese export solid camphor wood campaign bureau à cylindre or roll-top desk, circa 1780. An extremely rare example - entirely of beautifully figured camphor wood which has mellowed to a rich mahogany color over 250 years. Writing surface slides out for a comfortable workspace which can also be angled upwards (old, replaced leather writing surface). Reverse graduated drawers. Exceptional interior of 7 drawers, 4 variously fitted pigeon holes, & prospect door with molded classical panel. Side carrying handles. Bail & rosette pulls. Brass rosette knobs on roll top. Shaped bracket feet.
